2009 48 Hour Challenge
The 5th Annual 48 Hour Short Film Challenge kicks-off February 20-22, 2009. Compete in one of the largest film challenges in the world! Registration is now open. Teams registered so far...

Who May Enter?
The challenge is open to amateurs, students, video hobbyists, filmmakers, and professionals alike. All you need is the desire to make a film in just 48 hours! Simply form a team (no limit on size), assign a team leader and then register. Live outside of Phoenix or Arizona, click here.

Registration
To register for the 48 Hour Challenge, please pay the registration fee below. The team leader receives a free A3F Beanie or Hat with a paid registration! ($40, Jan. 1-31). ($50, Feb. 1-20).

How Does It Work?
Guidelines consisting of a theme, a prop and a line of dialogue will be revealed at a kick-off party (t.b.a.) on Friday, Feb. 20 (or online). Teams then have the next 2 days to write a script, gather cast and crew, find locations, shoot and edit their film, and turn it in 48 hours later. An absolute adrenalin rush for sure!

What Do I get?
Besides the admiration of all your family and friends, the Top 20 Films, as scored by our panel of judges, will premier at AMC Arizona Center 24 Theatres on March 5 and be eligible for *cash prizes, awards, certificates and much more! The A3F runs the best festival in the southwest and we are committed to putting the filmmakers first! (*prizes are subject to change.)

Rules
  • All films must be 1-5 minutes in length, inclduing opening and closing credits.
  • All films must be shot during the 48 hour period, no footage from your last masterpiece!
  • Animators are allowed to create scenery templates, same as teams scouting locations.
  • Teams must own all copyrights or have permission for their footage and songs/music.
  • Teams must abide by all governing laws in the proximity, places or locations they are working.
  • Teams must agree to have lots of fun and possibly become Almost Famous!

    Judging
  • Chris Leps has appeared in over 22 feature films, including Daredevil, Sin City, The Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy, National Treasure 2 and Transformers 2.
  • Joe Mustacchi - Lead instructor for film/HD production at Collins College
  • Bivas Biswas is a two-time winner of A3F 48 Hour Challenges and Arizona Filmmaker of the Year.
  • Jason Francois is a seasoned filmmaker, 3D artist and A3F Assistant Director.
  • Jae Staats is the Founder and Director of A3F and A3F Incorporated.

    Your films will be reviewed by our panel of judges and scored on a 1-5 point scale in the following categories, a perfect score is a 30.

  • Script - Your story should incorporate and be built around the given theme.
  • Acting - Are your characters believable?
  • Cinematography - Includes lighting, sound and technical achievement.
  • Style - Does your film have its own look, feel to it?
  • Guidelines - How well you implement the given theme, prop and line of dialogue.
  • Entertainment Value - Does your film hold the audience's attention? Is it memorable?
